Volunteer Facebook Community Manager

Role purpose

We are looking for a number of volunteers to help us administer our rapidly expanding Facebook community. This group is an integral part of our mission to connect people across the world who believe in living with compassion and help them share, organize, and support one another.


Ideally 5+ hours per week.

Key tasks

  • Approving new member requests and member posts.
  • Moderating any controversial posts or comments and taking appropriate action if necessary.
  • Providing prompts to members to engage them in conversations.
  • Time allowing, creating GCC-branded material to post in the group for members to share and comment on.
  • Responding to questions from members.
  • Being an ambassador for the GCC.

Essential skills/experience to have

  • Non-judgemental mindset.
  • Sensitive to equality and diversity. 
  • Ability to engage a calm and dispassionate response to controversial posts. 
  • Collaborative team-player.
  • Basic knowledge of Facebook and how to engage people through social media. 
  • Commitment to values and goals of the GCC.
  • Strong written communication skills.

Useful skills/experience to have

  • Solid understanding of compassion and how to practice it (including practices for cultivating compassion). 
  • Previous experience managing a Facebook Group.
