On January 24th, 2025, the Nigerian Compassion Champions Program of the Global Compassion Coalition, in collaboration with the Neighborhood Love Project of Victorious Fire Force Ministries, led by Pastor Patrick Nwokorie, organized an inspiring visit to the Umuahia Correctional Custodial Centre. This initiative aimed to demonstrate love and compassion toward the inmates while supporting the transformative efforts of the correctional authorities.
A warm reception
The Compassion Champions team, led by Nigeria Compassion Connectors Coordinator Uwalaka Uchechukwu, received a heartfelt welcome from the Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), Mabia Orjiakor, and the Educational Coordinator, Isaiah Blessing. Both leaders expressed their gratitude for the group’s visit, emphasizing the significance of such compassionate interventions in improving the well-being of the inmates.
Supporting education
One of the highlights of the visit was the educational support provided by the Neighborhood Love Project. Pastor Patrick Nwokorie and his team made a financial donation to the Open University Program at the Custodial Centre. This contribution will help the program secure 50 litres of fuel, addressing a critical challenge that has been causing failed exams for inmates enrolled in the program. The initiative reflects a commitment to empowering inmates through education, fostering hope and providing tools for a brighter future.
Spreading compassion
This visit underscored the mission of the Global Compassion Coalition to spread compassion in every corner of society. By partnering with local organizations like Victorious Fire Force Ministries, the Compassion Champions Program continues to inspire change, showing a new way to organize prison and custodial centres.
