Background
A psychologist with a PhD, the facilitator has worked for 30 years with people with disabilities, mainly autism. With a long-standing interest in empathy and compassion, the facilitator has identified the potential of compassion to promote well-being in families of people with autism and intellectual disabilities.
About the Project
This Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) program is designed for parents of people with autism, primarily from low-income families. It is the first initiative of its kind in Madrid.
The People
The participants are parents of people with autism or intellectual disabilities, aged 35-60, from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Autism often generates significant stress for family members, with common feelings of guilt and anxiety.
The Impact
Participants have shared that practicing meditation helps them manage daily stress. Addressing feelings of guilt through compassion has offered a new perspective, easing their suffering.
