Connectors in Burundi Bring Compassion to Older Communities

The spirit of compassion continues to shine in northern Burundi, where the Connectors group in Kirundo province has been extending support to older members of the community and those living in vulnerable circumstances. Over the past few days, the group—part of the growing Compassion Connectors network—has provided essential supplies and partnered with local allies to alleviate suffering in the region.

On May 17, 2025, the Kirundo Connectors distributed vital items to an older resident, including cassava flour, fish, and soap. The simple but meaningful act highlights the group’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that those often overlooked are not forgotten. “We ask anyone who can offer support to help us reach more elderly and vulnerable people in need,” said Emmanuel Baranyizigiye, National Coordinator of the Connectors in Burundi.

The following day, a significant collaboration took place. Compassion Connectors Burundi welcomed visitors from the Heart of Christ Association of Burundi, a faith-based organization that came bearing gifts of solidarity and support. Together, they distributed 40 kilograms of rice, 40 kilograms of beans, 20 kilograms of salt, and 12 kilograms of soap to elderly residents of Gishingano, a locality within Kirundo province.

“The elderly were very happy with this help,” shared Emmanuel. “Their joy reminded us how powerful it is when we act together with compassion.”

These recent actions are part of a broader movement to build networks of care that are locally rooted and globally connected. As the Connectors continue to grow in Burundi, they are forging relationships with local partners, mobilizing small acts of kindness, and creating ripple effects of hope across communities.

As Emmanuel reminds us, “Every gift, no matter how small, helps alleviate suffering and restore dignity to those in need
