Mission and Vision
Some physical and emotional pain is unavoidable - and compassion naturally moves us to ease it as best we can.
Additionally, much suffering is caused by broad factors - such as poverty, prejudice, and corruption - and compassion moves us to join with others to change those systemic sources of suffering.
The Global Compassion Coalition is where people and organizations around the world come together because they want to relieve suffering and to change its underlying causes.

We envision a world in which the fundamental orientation of society is centered on the wellbeing of both people and the planet we share -- where everyone feels that their lives and happiness matter, where care and support are accessible whenever needed, and where compassion and justice are not just ideals but actual foundations.
The GCC envisions a world where compassion is not confined to personal virtue but is embedded in institutions, economies, cultures, and policies. A world shaped by compassion is one where human dignity, justice, and care for the Earth are non-negotiable foundations of collective living.
Our mission
Establishing compassion and justice at the foundation of all societies.
We are a growing movement of people and organizations that recognize we must come together at larger scales to make a world that is prosperous and peaceful for the many, not just the few - and appreciate compassion as a powerful force for doing this, at the heart of being human.
Grounded in science, contemplative wisdom, and activist passion, we build communities, share tools, and support initiatives that address systemic sources of suffering. Everything we offer is freely accessible, because this work belongs to everyone.

Human Dignity
Every person has inherent worth, regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, ability, age, or circumstance.
Respect for Diversity
We honor and support the diverse ways in which various cultures and individuals pursue their own paths to flourishing.
Inter-dependence
We are all connected, across generations, cultures, and species. Compassion requires recognizing these ties and acting with responsibility for the whole.
Dignity of All Life
Human flourishing is inseparable from the health of our planet. We care for the Earth not just because it enables human flourishing but for its own intrinsic worth.

Compassion in action demands addressing structural inequities and removing conditions that perpetuate suffering.
How we work
The GCC pursues its mission in four interconnected ways.
Individual practice
We foster increased experiences and expressions of compassion through our guides, exercises, online courses, events, podcast, and other resources.
Compassionate communities
Through the Connectors Program, Compassion Corps, Compassion Café, and HomeGround, we help people develop relationships and communities in which they feel heard and seen, connected, and supported.
Networks of compassionate leaders
We encourage and empower leaders, policymakers, and activists in key sectors -- including healthcare, education, business, and politics -- with trainings and tools to increase compassion-centered standards, practices, and outcomes.
Collective action
We support large-scale policies and actions that reduce and even end systemic sources of suffering.
Much like an enzyme can accelerate positive change in a single body, compassionate collective action is like a super-enzyme for positive change in humanity as a whole.
To accomplish this, we both stand with key initiatives of other organizations, and we develop our own.
And in addition to their direct benefits, we use these initiatives as living laboratories in the most effective practices in making the world we long for.

Closing
For most of our time on this earth, including in the small bands in which our ancestors lived and evolved over literally millions of years, “caring and sharing” - compassion and justice - was the foundation for living together.
The goodness that is innate in our species continues to be enacted in every act of kindness and every movement for fairness and decency in the world today.
Together, we have the wisdom, the tools, and the collective power to build a world worthy of our children and of the living Earth that holds us all. The GCC is helping to weave these efforts into a force greater than the sum of its parts.
