Uwalaka Uchechukwu, National Coordinator for the Compassion Connectors Nigeria and the Compassion Champions Initiative, recently led a vital advocacy visit to promote compassion in policing.
As part of their mission of “compassion in action,” Uwalaka and his team visited the Umuahia Custodial Centre, addressing the serious challenge of overcrowding with tangible support and deep human connection. They brought encouragement and solidarity to inmates, along with essential resources like reading materials to support growth. The team also helped organize the finals of the annual Football Tournament for Prison Inmates, supplying jerseys and a football, and facilitated workshops on mental health and trauma prevention.

Beyond the practical donations, the Connectors listened deeply, sharing words of hope and helping to foster a sense of dignity and connection for those detained. Their presence was a powerful reminder that no one is forgotten and that even in the most challenging environments, small acts of care—from a book to a kind word—can help restore humanity.
