Paul Gilbert, PhD, OBE is Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Derby. He was Consultant Clinical Psychologist at NHS for over 40 years. He is the founder of Compassion focused Therapy and Fellow of the British Psychological Society. He has written/edited 23 books and over 300 papers and book chapters. In 2006 he established the Compassionate Mind Foundation as an international charity with the mission statement: To promote wellbeing through the scientific understanding and application of compassion (www.compassionatemind.co.uk). He was awarded an OBE by the Queen in March 2011 for services to mental health. He established and is the Director of the Centre for Compassion Research and Training at Derby University UK.
Steven C. Hayes is Foundation Professor of Psychology Emeritus at the University of Nevada, Reno and President of the Institute for Better Health, a charitable organization that promotes quality in mental and behavioral health services. An author of 48 books and over 700 scientific articles, he initiated the development of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or “ACT” a popular evidence-based form of psychotherapy that uses mindfulness, acceptance, and values-based methods. His book Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life has long been one of the best-selling self-help books. ACT methods are distributed worldwide by the World Health Organization to help survivors of war and other disasters and are known to foster self-compassion and compassion toward others. Dr. Hayes has received lifetime achievement awards from the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the Association for Psychological Science and is among the most cited psychologists in the world.
Christopher Germer, PhD is a clinical psychologist and lecturer on psychiatry (part-time) at Harvard Medical School. He co-developed the Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) program with Kristin Neff in 2010 and they wrote three books, The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook, Teaching the Mindful Self-Compassion Program, and Mindful Self-Compassion for Burnout. MSC has been taught to over 250,000 people worldwide. Dr. Germer is also the author of The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion and a co-editor of two influential volumes on therapy, Mindfulness and Psychotherapy, and Wisdom and Compassion in Psychotherapy. He is a founding faculty member of the Center for Mindfulness and Compassion, Harvard Medical School, and the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy, Cambridge MA. Daniel Ellenberg, PhD is a psychologist, leadership coach, and the founder of Strength with Heart men’s groups and workshops. He is a past president of American Psychological Association (APA) division on men and masculinities, and the founder/director of the Men and Boys Compassion Coalition through the Global Compassion Coalition (GCC). He is currently co-writing a book for men called Strength with Heart and contributed a chapter in A Global Dialogue on Masculinity. He has spent his entire career helping men navigate their lives more mindfully, skilfully, and compassionately.
